Jason Walker is the enrollment and retention manager for WVU Reed College of Media, with a specific focus in online Data Marketing Communications, Digital Marketing Communications and Integrated Marketing Communications. Joining the college in August 2022, Walker’s initiative is to positively impact all aspects of the online student journey, with an emphasis on retaining students from recruitment to degree completion. Walker will also lead alumni relations strategies to support program graduates beyond the completion of their degrees.
Before accepting the position with the Reed College of Media, Walker was employed at Salem University for nearly 13 years. At Salem University he served as the associate vice president for learning management and faculty athletic representative. In that role, he was involved with the planning, development and operational performance of the university’s online learning experiences and the management of the learning management system. Walker was a vital member in leading the launch and expansion of the student advancement and success department that implemented strategies for identifying at-risk students and intervention. He has taught business and student success courses and is acknowledged in the preface of the book Becoming a Master Student by Dave Ellis for both the 16th and 17th editions.
Born and raised in Fairmont W.V., Walker earned his undergraduate degree at Fairmont State University and his master's degree at Salem University.
Outside of higher education, Walker has volunteered on non-profit boards and youth coaching. He enjoys grilling for his family and friends, and says his mission as a father, “Is to be the best at raising his son and provide him with experiences that were better than his”.
In addition to Mountaineer sports teams, he is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
