SOJ students invited to WVU's symposium on science communication (April 5)

WVU’s inaugural symposium on science communication, “Science and Technology in Society: Effective Communication Strategies,” will take place at the Mountainlair on April 5th.

Part of the symposium is particularly relevant to journalism students – a workshop on “Talking to the Scientist: Skills for Members of the Media,” presented by Cheryl Hogue, senior correspondent for the American Chemical Society’s publication, Chemical and Engineering News.

WVU Alumni Association seeks interns

The WVU Alumni Association is seeking two bright, creative students to assist with various marketing, public relations and other communications initiatives for the summer and fall semesters.

The position requires excellent writing skills, basic public relations knowledge, and the ability to work in team environment. This position is a great opportunity to build a portfolio of work, including the Web communications, social media initiatives and printed materials.

The Association will provide students with a unique learning experience, opportunities to attend alumni events, networking outlets and flexible hours. Students are asked to commit to a minimum of 3-5 hours per week. While this is not a paid internship, students may receive a stipend for their work at the end of the semester, based on performance.

The App Launch Pad - April Workshops for WVU Students Announced

Students interested in learning to develop iPhone Apps are invited to participate in this series of workshops, then enter a contest to win an iPad2.

April 5 Workshop- 6:00 pm Mountainlair (Rhododendron Room – Lair)

Student App developers Jared Crawford, Armand Patella, and Logan Spears will explain the process of developing Apps for the iPhone. Developers, designers and those with no technical experience are all welcome. Pizza will provided and there will be an opportunity to network to find students with complementarity skills.
