Village Voice Media is partnering with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University again this summer to hold the Village Voice Digital Media Fellowship for Minority Students.

The Village Voice Media is looking for diverse students who are strong reporters with a voice and a potential interest in alt-weekly journalism.

This is a great opportunity for students because it is VVM’s way of testing out potential recruits for full-time jobs within the company.

Apply for a PAID internship at The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is looking for news reporters, feature writers, sports writers, multimedia editors, copy editors, and photographers to apply for the their 2012 summer internship program.

The internship is a 13-week program, with pay of $350 a week. A car and valid driver’s license are required. Applicants should be completing at least their junior year of college. A previous internship or experience on college news publication is a plus. Most internships are based in Pittsburgh; they typically place one reporting intern in their newsroom in Tarentum (the Valley News Dispatch) and a reporter and photographer in their Greensburg Tribune-Review newsroom.

Rogers, a Martinsburg native, graduated with a marketing degree from WVU in May of 2009 and started in the IMCprogram that fall.

“After receiving my bachelor’s degree in marketing from WVU, I felt it was important to expand my education to make myself more competitive in the job market,” said Andrea. “I saw that the WVU IMC program would not only provide me with advanced skills in marketing, but also open my eyes to the fields of advertising and public relations. Most importantly, the WVU IMC program was an especially good fit for me because of the flexibility and unique online program design.”

With limited supervision, the advisor of emerging/social media guides, supports and coordinates execution of TransUnion’s public relations and marketing strategy for the purposes of brand building and lead generation in the emerging/social media arena. 1. Identifies opportunities and develops strategies and guidelines for implementing scalable emerging/social media programs that generate maximum optimization and ROI.
2. Coordinates emerging/social media initiatives globally, serving as the intermediary between internal, external and third parties. Interacts with Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Global eCommerce, TransUnion Interactive, legal and HR departments as appropriate.
3. Coordinates emerging/social media efforts with SEO resource and across multiple market segments/verticals in all formats, channels and venues to maximize public relations, marketing and branding efforts.
4. Responsible for staying up-to-date on new emerging/social media tools channels, metrics, and best practices, as well as how other companies are using them.
5. Assists in the development and coordination of emerging/social media efforts in the area of crisis communications.

Summer 2012 Institute on Political Journalism

Outstanding students are wanted for nominations for the 2012 Institute on Political Journalism, sponsored by The Fund for American Studies with courses accredited by Georgetown University. The institute is a summer academic internship program held in Washington , DC, for undergraduates interested in exploring careers within the fields of Journalism, communications, and public relations.

The Institute combines substantive professional experience for 30 hours a week in addition to rigorous Georgetown University academic coursework. Students are also given the opportunity to attend unique networking activities featuring Washington’s leading reporters and editors. WV Uncovered project hosts multimedia workshops

On Wednesday, December 14, the School will host a a photography and blogging workshop for Randolph County high school teachers. With support from the Board of Education, teachers will attend the workshop to learn digital media skills, which they can use in their classrooms. The InterMountain newspaper in Elkins is co-sponsoring the workshop.
