Two graduate students in the West Virginia Uncovererd Class are now blogging and tweeting for the class. Sarah Moore and Steve Butera are going to be sharing their thoughts and experiences with multimedia journalism. On Twitter, they are @WVuncovered, and the blog is http://wvuncovered.wvu.edu/blog They will be writing about/exploring new media issues and content. Intern wanted to help with WVU Center for Women's Studies 30th Anniversary

The West Virginia University Center for Women’s Studies is advertising a position for an intern who will help plan and coordinate activities for the 30th anniversary of the Center during the 2010 calendar year. This person should be currently enrolled as a WVUstudent with a background in women’s studies and/or a commitment to social justice issues. The position is part-time (10-15 hours per week depending on need and availability) with a pay rate of $10 per hour. The internship will start during the fall 2009 semester and end during the fall 2010 semester. The person should have the ability to perform the following tasks: 
1) Develop and communicate information about the events and activities associated with the anniversary through the WMST website and Internet 
a. Develop a blog and Facebook page to communicate with WMST constituents 
b. Organize and post images and documents associated with the Center’s history

Mid-Atlantic N.A.M.E. Scholarship Competition

Sophomore, junior and senior advertising students are invited to participate in the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives (N.A.M.E.) Scholarship Competition. Students will be asked to work with a client and design an advertising campaign to meet the client’s objective. One student will win five thousand dollars plus an all expense-paid trip to the N.A.M.E. summer convention. The winner’s attendance at the summer convention will also provide a wonderful networking atmosphere with industry professionals.

Vietnam War hero, combat surgeon and WVU Professor to give presentation at SOJ

Dr. Larry Schwab, a combat surgeon during the Vietnam War who was awarded two bronze stars for heroism and meritorious service, and now a professor at West Virginia University, will tell it like it really was with a riveting slide show of the war zone, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Martin Hall, in Room 205, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. No need to make reservations. Five thousand dollar scholarship available to aspiring print and broadcast journalists from Western Pennsylvania

The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania is taking applications for its fourth annual $5,000 scholarship awarded to aspiring journalists. The award is designed to encourage outstanding collegiate journalism students in print and broadcasting.

The scholarship will be awarded in May 2010 in Pittsburgh at the annual Golden Quills Awards Dinner sponsored by The Press Club. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university for at least two years. They must be able to demonstrate why they should receive the award. Their primary residence must be in one of the 29 counties of Western Pennsylvania (see list below). The scholarship money will be credited to the winner’s account at their university or college. The winner also will receive a plaque in recognition of the award. Deadline for applications is January 15, 2010. The scholarship committee will review applications and select finalists. The winner will be notified by April 15.
