The Greater Morgantown Community Trust (GMCT) announces several scholarship opportunities for the 2010-’11 academic year. GMCT will also accept applications for two regional awards.
The Jean and Laurence S. DeLynn Scholarship provides a four-year $20,000 undergraduate award to high school students who are children or grandchildren of current or retired full-time employees of Mylan Laboratories in Morgantown. To confirm eligibility, contact GMCT or human resources at Mylan.
The Jim Dunn Memorial Scholarship, awarded through GMCT’s Friends of Track and Field Fund, provides two $500 scholarships to West Virginia high school seniors who intend to run cross country or track and field at the collegiate level during the 2010-’11 academic year.
The Hopeworks Scholarship provides two four-year $6,000 scholarships to Monongalia County high school graduates with a demonstrated need of financial assistance due to the loss of parental income from death or divorce.
GMCT also offers five scholarships for Preston High School graduates entering four-year or technical and trade school programs: The Angela Shahan Memorial Scholarship (engineering and agriculture), The Dr. Leo Kotchek Memorial Scholarship (pre-veterinary studies), The Joycelyn A. Ayersman Memorial Scholarship (Rowlesburg residents), The Kyle Metheny Memorial Scholarship (athletic excellence) and the John C. and Joann T. Wills Scholarship (music).
In addition to specific qualifications, applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, commitment and leadership through school and community involvement.
