WVU School of Journalism students getting "schooled" in grammar

Some educators argue that reliance on technology is hindering students’ writing abilities, but faculty at WVU’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism are embracing technology to teach students grammar fundamentals.

Through an assessment of learning outcomes, School of Journalism faculty have identified the need for stronger writing and grammar skills among students. In response, the School has added a new online grammar component to the introductory media writing class required of all students.

Attention December Graduation Candidates - Ceremony on Dec. 13!

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism will host its own December Convocation ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

While the SOJ ceremony begins at 9:30 am, graduates are asked to arrive by 8:30 am for line-up. Please report to the registration table in front of the Mountaineer Room on the second floor of the Lair. Students graduating with honors will be given honor cords during line-up.

SOJ professor's documentary to be featured at Dec. 1 Miner's Day event

WVU will pay tribute to coal miners Tuesday, Dec. 1. “The Monongah Heroine,” a documentary by SOJ Teaching Assistant Professor Gina Martino Dahlia, will highlight tonight’s program in the Mountainlair Blue Ballroom. Dahlia’s documentary focuses on the widow’s left behind from the Dec. 6, 1907 Monongah, W.Va. mine disaster.
