Students and faculty at West Virginia University’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism aren’t just talking about the future of their profession – they’re helping to redefine it.
A new class, Blogging and Interactive Journalism, is giving students the opportunity to explore and experience the impact of Web 2.0 and user-generated content on journalism. Using a variety of social media tools and web-based applications, students will learn to become effective online journalists, facilitating news as a two-way conversation rather than a one-way transmission.

Kasey Hott, a December, 2009 broadcast news graduate is the third School of Journalism student in as many years to break the top 10 in the annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
WVU students have a chance to perform research, learn about graduate school and receive financial assistance as part of the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Students in the program will be given a $2,500 annual stipend, graduate school placement assistance and professional development opportunities to help them gain admission into masters and doctoral degree programs. To be eligible for the program, students must have completed their sophomore year of study by May 2010, be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program full-time, have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applications will be accepted until all vacancies in the program are filled. Students are encouraged to get their application in as soon as possible. West Virginia University will host its annual Study Abroad Fair Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Mountainlair’s Blue and Gold Ballrooms. The Study Abroad Fair provides students with the initial contacts and information to pursue an educational experience in another country.

The next Journalism Qualifying Exam (JQE) test dates are scheduled for Tues., Feb. 9 and Wed., Feb. 10 at 5:30 pm in 202 Brooks Hall.
