This fast-paced, eight-week residential program provides students from around the world with opportunities to gain the edge in today’s competitive job market and graduate school admissions, and experience the excitement of Washington first-hand.

Student photo story work from VISJ 220 is now on exhibit in Martin Hall, ground floor level. The display was the idea of Professor Lois Raimondo. If you see something you like, please let the student-photographer (and Professor Raimondo) know! VISJ 220 (Introduction to Photojournalism) is an entry-level journalism course that builds photographic and reporting skills. For those interested in photojournalism, this is a good place to start.
The fellowship, named for the late CBS foreign correspondent and WVU alumni Frank Kearns, gives students the opportunity to cover an international news event. After leaving CBS, Kearns returned to WVU where he served as Benedum Professor of Journalism until 1983.
This year, Nelson, a junior from Wellsburg, W.Va., will cover the European Journalism Training Academy’s Annual General Meeting at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris. The trip, scheduled for May, will include tours of French media outlets, as well as the chance to visit journalism schools in the region.
In addition, West Virginia University placed in the top 10 overall in the Intercollegiate Broadcast News Competition.
The Hearst Awards Program is the premier competition for college journalism. Awards are presented annually under the auspices of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with full funding by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The program’s mission is to encourage and support excellence in journalism and journalism education in America’s colleges and universities.
“Journalism Week 2010: Where the Jobs Are in the Changing Media Industry” is set for Sunday, March 21, through Thursday, March 25. This year’s series of events focuses on an issue of immediate concern to our students – where the jobs are in the changing media industry and how you can best position yourselves as digital journalists and communicators.
