Communications internship in Washington, D.C.

The Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives (CAO) seeks a dynamic, self-starter to intern with his communications team. The primary responsibility of the communications intern will be to assist in media relations and in various web development projects. The intern, or communications specialist, will also be responsible for writing stories focusing on the inner workings of the CAO and Congress in a broader sense.

While the internship is unpaid, college credit will be offered.

Candidates must:

  • Be in their junior or senior year of their college
  • Be majoring in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Work 15-20 hours per week
  • Be reliable
  • Be self-motivated and focused
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Have strong research and organizational skills
  • Be computer literate: In-depth knowledge of MS Office a must. Dreamweaver and Photoshop knowledge not required, but desirable

About the CAO: The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises nearly 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
