Summer study abroad opportunity in Taiwan

The Foreign Languages Department has two spots for journalism students interested in traveling to Taiwan in May and June 2010 for an intensive Chinese language study program. The program, including room and board, costs $2,200, not including airfare. It’s a great opportunity for someone to begin learning Chinese while also earning six WVU credits. SOJ provides awards for internships and study aboard programs--Deadline April 30

Apply now for the SOJ’s Student Enhancement Awards!

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism is offering a limited number of cash awards to students who have secured major-market journalism internships or have been accepted in a journalism study abroad program in 2010. This includes all areas of study – advertising; public relations; and television, print or visual journalism. The awards will range from $500-1,000.

Martinsburg VA Medical Center seeks student worker and interns

The Martinsburg VA Medical Center seeks to hire a student interested in working in the field of federal communications. Our experienced news team includes writers with an average of 20 years reporting experience at the Daily Telegraph, and we’re now seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated reporter to join our staff. Successful candidates should be self-starters, with strong communication, writing, reporting and interviewing skills. Photography skills a plus. Job will include weekend, evening and holiday shifts. The position requires reporting for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, the established daily newspaper serving southern West Virginia and Southwest Virginia, as well as our regional magazines. SOJ launches unique online Digital Marketing Communications program

The program, which starts Aug. 23 when fall classes begin, is one of the first of its kind in the country, according to Chad Mezera, program director.

“Digital marketing communications is not about telling the audience what to think,” said Mezera. “Rather, it focuses on responding strategically to what the audience already thinks and putting relevant information in places where the audience can access it.”
