SOJ Alumni Mentorship Program seeks applicants

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism is seeking applicants for its Alumni Mentorship Program. This program offers School of Journalism students the opportunity to be mentored by outstanding professionals in the fields of advertising, public relations, broadcasting, print and multimedia journalism. Professionals can offer resume advice, networking opportunities, interview preparation, as well as an outlook on the current job market.

Applicants are required to complete the attached application and return it to Student Services Coordinator Jason Broadwater (108 Martin Hall) by September 10, 2010. There are a limited number of placements available. Selection into the program is competitive.

WVU Children's Hospital Development Office student internship

The WVU Children’s Hospital Development Office seeks an energetic and creative self-starter to serve as a student intern for the 2010-2011 academic year. The WVU Children’s Hospital Development office is a fundraising team that financially supports the not-for-profit WVU Children’s Hospital: services, care, programs, research, and more.

Job Description:
• Assists with all aspects of coordinating WVU Children’s Hospital Events including Children’s Miracle Network events.
• Assists in preparing text and design for newsletters, invitations, brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials.
• Prepares mass mailings
• Performs administrative tasks and other duties as assigned
• Position is part-time (20 hours per week) and is unpaid

Online fashion magazine seeks journalism students

Hercampus.com, an online fashion magazine created by three Harvard Journalism students, is starting a WVU branch. They are looking for a team of journalists to help them get started. Available positions include:

There will be weekly meetings that will last approximately 30 minutes to go over the next week’s agenda. The writing, advertising, and photography can be done on one’s own time, but the deadline must be met. All jobs are currently available. Health communications internship program

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), the largest of the 27 institutes and centers comprising the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is the Federal Government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. The NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

The NCI recognizes that health information dissemination is key to raising public awareness about new cancer treatments, support for cancer patients and their families, and prevention strategies. To that end, in 1975 the NCI established the Health Communications Internship Program (HCIP) to attract individuals interested in careers in health communications and science writing.
