LIVESTRONG internship

LIVESTRONG offers unpaid internships to current students and recent graduates interested in learning the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. Interns will experience one-on-one mentorship with a LIVESTRONG team member to gain hands on experience in their area of interest.

Requirements

• Applicants must be available to work 12–20 hours per week during regular business hours at LIVESTRONG HQ in Austin, Texas.
• Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of computer competency.
• Applicants should be self-motivated, organized, willing to help with any project no matter how large or small, and able to balance multiple priorities at once.
• Applicants must have a strong desire to make a difference, a passion for the LIVESTRONG mission, a positive attitude and an affinity for the color yellow.
• Applicants must be able to provide their own housing and transportation; mastery of parallel parking is a plus.

Development and Fundraising:

Event Planning and Promotion interns will help Team LIVESTRONG as they organize events to engage constituents at all levels. Tasks may include interacting with vendors, sponsors, participants, volunteers and other organizations that work with LIVESTRONG to help produce highly successful endurance events in multiple cities.

Fundraising interns will assist our supporters in holding successful fundraising events. Tasks include constituent communication and fulfilling requests from fundraisers. Interns may work directly with grassroots fundraisers and partnered events, or with endurance event participants.

Donor Relations interns will help the development team as they work to enhance internal communications and customer service for constituents. Tasks include compiling and responding to constituent and donor requests through email, telephone and handwritten notes.

Mission:

Research and Evaluation interns will help to measure the impact of LIVESTRONG’s initiatives. Tasks will include data collection, research and evaluating programmatic initiatives. Interns will have the opportunity to analyze data and report internally and externally on the outcomes of LIVESTRONG initiatives including cancer support information and services, grant funded programs and public health and health policy initiatives. Interns must have strong computer skills including Excel and Word. SPSS experience is a plus. Interns should also have the ability to do research-type tasks such as analyze data and develop charts and tables to be included in reports.

Public Health/Education interns will help the Mission team as they work to empower the cancer community and address the unmet needs of cancer survivors. Interns may work in areas such as educational material development and dissemination, program planning and evaluation or the Young Adult Alliance. Tasks may include research, communication with partners, event planning and coordination with peer reviewers and experts.

International Programs interns will assist with the growth of LIVESTRONG’s reach both domestically and abroad. Main tasks and responsibilities will include conducting research on resources in communities, communication with other cancer related nonprofits and assisting with the creation of networking tools for the cancer community. This is an ideal position for those interested in a career in public health, nonprofit management, communications or international development.

Community Programs interns will aid in the distribution of community impact funding to program partners offering direct services to cancer survivors. Tasks will include helping to organize and coordinate grant activities, communicating with grantees and assisting with programmatic evaluation.

Advocacy and Engagement:

Communications and External Affairs interns will assist with projects involving constituent communications, writing and distributing press releases, media relations surrounding special events, compiling press kits and various other public relations tasks.

Advocacy and Engagement interns will help LIVESTRONG as we work to make cancer a national priority through grassroots advocacy and public policy initiatives. Tasks may include researching grassroots advocacy practices, communicating with advocates, preparing analysis reports on grassroots strategies and helping coordinate advocacy outreach communications.

Government Relations interns will assist LIVESTRONG in working with elected officials as they support legislation that has the potential to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Tasks include: Corresponding with elected officials and organizations/members of the cancer community, tracking national bills of interest through the legislative process, and aiding in the organization of cancer policy meetings and LIVESTRONG advocacy events.

Marketing interns will help the foundation in our efforts to build brand awareness and relevance, drive utilization to LIVESTRONG’s survivorship services, activate constituents and support fundraising activities. Tasks may include responding to constituent inquiries, assisting with the creation of press releases and marketing pieces and communicating with LIVESTRONG partners.

New Media interns will help the new media team with online projects and assist with LIVESTRONG’s social networking. Tasks will include writing HTML for LIVESTRONG websites, creating web graphics, writing blogs, editing and uploading photo and video content and carrying out any other web related requests.

Graphic Design interns will assist with the development and design of core LIVESTRONG graphics, collateral and event materials along with helping design and develop collateral updates. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend project meetings and press checks. Interns must be proficient in basic design programs including Adobe Creative Suite and Quark Xpress. Writing and proofing skills are also required.
