SOJ students invited to WVU's symposium on science communication (April 5)

WVU’s inaugural symposium on science communication, “Science and Technology in Society: Effective Communication Strategies,” will take place at the Mountainlair on April 5th.

Part of the symposium is particularly relevant to journalism students – a workshop on “Talking to the Scientist: Skills for Members of the Media,” presented by Cheryl Hogue, senior correspondent for the American Chemical Society’s publication, Chemical and Engineering News.

WVU's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department seeks intern

The WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources’ Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department is looking for a paid intern to work 10 hours per week. The position will ideally start this summer and continue throughout the school year. Intern will be responsible for writing for the annual report, newsletter, and various assignments as needed. Heinz social media internship--summer 2011

Heinz North America is seeking candidates for a Social Media Internship for summer 2011. Internship opportunity is located in Downtown Pittsburgh. 
The primary responsibility of the intern will be to manage an assigned Social Media project within the HNA Public Relations and Communications department; and support and improve the department’s social media monitoring, measurement and engagement capability, while listening for trends and opportunities/business or marketing insights in the social media space.

Enthusiasm and passion for communications, specifically in the social media space; excellent communication skills, solid writing skills (including creative writing); strong PC skills (Word, PowerPoint); use and/or knowledge of basic social media services/tools, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs, etc.; ability to work independently but also part of a team. Education: Public relations, journalism or communications (or related field) student (junior or senior status preferred); previous public relations internship experience in a corporate or agency setting preferred but not required.
