“WVU News,” named best student newscast in the country by the Broadcast Education Association last month, recently launched a new website for the weekly, student-produced news program.
The site (http://sojnewscast.wvu.edu/) provides School of Journalism students another opportunity to publish their work. It includes not only the latest weekly newscast, but also a Producers’ Blog, Twitter feed, student crew information, additional video clips and more.
In coordination with School of Journalism staff, the site was developed by a group of former “WVU News” students who saw the value of expanding the program beyond weekly newscast.
Paul King, a broadcast news senior who helped develop the website, said the new site will allow students to showcase their talents.
“It’s a way to display what the students are learning in an effective way that engages an audience with a brand new site that not many other schools have,” said King. “It’s great to have another outlet for our show and all of the hard work the students put into it.”
In addition to being available via the new website, “WVU News” airs statewide on West Virginia PBS as part of “Campus Connection” and is available on the School of Journalism’s YouTube page and WVU’s iTunesU.
