WVU Division of Forestry public relations interns needed

Position details:

The Appalachian Hardwood Center at the West Virginia University Division of Forestry is looking to hire two students this summer, with the possibility of continuing into the fall and spring semesters. The pay is $8.50 per hour, approximately 20 hours per week, for 10-12 weeks. The ideal candidate could start around May 15th, but that is semi flexible.

Daughter of SOJ alumnus to display Eleanor Roosevelt photos

Judi Tarowsky’s father, Bayard Young, was a WVU journalism student in the 1930s who interviewed and photographed Eleanor Roosevelt during a visit to Arthurdale, W.Va.

At Arthurdale Heritage on Saturday, May 7th at 2pm, Ms. Tarowsky will present the pictures he took that day which have not been seen locally since the 1930s.

SOJ students experience global health care PR

Led by adjunct instructor Chuck Harman, a senior executive at the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Arlington, Va., the class became a public relations agency that the students named “Young and Able.” The students worked throughout the semester to develop a three-part public relations campaign for their client, which they presented to Shine’s senior management in Ireland during spring break.

“Shine initially expressed a need to update their helpline services, reorganize their membership options and promote their emerging art therapy program,” said Adrienne Lundell a public relations senior from Oak Hill, Va.

Beeson named "Professor of the Year" by WVU's NAACP chapter

On Tuesday, April 19, WVU’s Center for Black Culture and Research and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People hosted the NAACP Image Awards in the Moutainlair Ballrooms.

Among the 10 awards presented at the event, SOJ Associate Professor Joel Beeson received the Professor of the Year Award, which is given to an outstanding professor who has worked to actively improve the black community.

Hill and Knowlton in Washington, D.C., seeks PR interns

Participants in the Hill and Knowlton Internship Program will be instructed about, and undertake the following activities:

These activities will be monitored and evaluated by the day-to-day supervisor. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in in-house training courses, including, but not limited to, writing, computer skills, account management, and time management.

WVU Office of Multicultural Studies internship opportunity

Job description:

Graphic designer. Responsible for taking media, such as dates, times,
film synopsis and pictures, and creatively using it to create posters
advertising events for the WVU Office of Multicultural Studies. Must be able
to follow work on a deadline and within small time-frames. Most posters
deal with movies featured during Brown Bag Luncheons. This Internship is
volunteer.

You will receive a flip camera and training on how to shoot quality footage. They will also help you develop a framework for the stories you want to tell.
