GolinHarris announces Mountaineer in D.C. program interns

Washington, D.C., public affairs firm GolinHarris will give three West Virginia University School of Journalism students the opportunity to practice their public relations skills on Capitol Hill during the 2011-2012 school year.

Rachel Taylor of Ripley, W.Va., was selected for the Summer 2011 session, while Blair Dowler of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Trey Hollern of Steelton, Pa., were selected for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters of the Mountaineer in D.C. internship program. Each student will receive a $2,500 stipend and a weekly salary.

Disney/ABC TV Group accepting applications for 2012 writing program

Disney │ ABC Television Group is now accepting applications for the 2012 Writing Program. Celebrating its 21st year, the Writing Program gives participants the opportunity to hone their craft and jumpstart their careers through intensive workshops, seminars and personalized mentoring with creative executives from ABC Entertainment, ABC Studios, Disney Channel, and ABC Family. Participants also receive a salary for a one-year period.

Thus far, staffed 2011 Writing Program participants include Tricia Johnson (Great State of Georgia, ABC Family), Silvia Olivas (Jesse, Disney Channel), Justin Lo (The Lying Game, ABC Family) and Gabe Fonseca (Private Practice, ABC). Writing Program alumni include Bryan Oh (‘07) who is Co-Producer on ABC’s Body of Proof, George Mastras (‘05) who is Producer on the critically-acclaimed Breaking Bad, and Jane Espenson (‘92) who most recently is a Consulting Producer on Torchwood.
