Rogers, a Martinsburg native, graduated with a marketing degree from WVU in May of 2009 and started in the IMCprogram that fall.
“After receiving my bachelor’s degree in marketing from WVU, I felt it was important to expand my education to make myself more competitive in the job market,” said Andrea. “I saw that the WVU IMC program would not only provide me with advanced skills in marketing, but also open my eyes to the fields of advertising and public relations. Most importantly, the WVU IMC program was an especially good fit for me because of the flexibility and unique online program design.”
While she knew that she wanted the flexibility of an online program, Andrea didn’t expect the abrupt change in travel associated with her most recent title.
“My travel plans for the year have increased significantly since being crowned Miss West Virginia USA 2012. I’ve always been a fan of traveling, and I couldn’t imagine a better reason to travel the state. Throughout my year, I will not only have the opportunity to travel within the state but also around the country including to the Miss USA Pageant that will be held next year.
“Being enrolled in an online graduate program has already afforded me the luxury of working full time at a middle school and teaching ballet and tap classes to aspiring young dancers during the evenings. Now with my added responsibilities of being Miss West Virginia USA my time management skills are certainly being put to a test, but being enrolled in an online program makes it all possible.”
Andrea has taken eight IMC classes, and has been able to use the skills she’s learned every day.
“From working with middle school students, to dancers, to pageant judges, or workplace professionals, the communication skills that I have learned through this program I find helpful on a daily basis. The curriculum that is offered in this program goes far beyond the classroom and can be applied in all facets of my life today and in the future.”
Andrea’s life has changed quite a bit in the last month, but she couldn’t be happier about her new role and how the WVU IMC program fits into her even busier life.
“Being named Miss West Virginia USA 2012 is something that I never imagined. It is quite an honor and is something that only 60 other women share. Being a native West Virginian, I am so proud to be able to represent our beautiful state on a national level. In a very short time, it has already provided opportunities for me that would have been unobtainable otherwise. Already, this experience has provided me with new friendships and phenomenal networking opportunities.”
“I’m also proud to be a representative of the IMC program at WVU. The flexibility, curriculum, and knowledgeable professors have been excellent and have exceeded any and all expectations.”
Andrea will participate in the Miss USA 2012 Pageant, airing on NBC in June 2012.
