The Design Studio at Des Moines Register Media is seeking two experienced newspaper page designers with solid management and people skills to lead teams which will design 15 newspapers in Wisconsin and Louisiana.
The Wisconsin team leader will supervise a team designing front pages, local news fronts and other local news pages for the Green Bay Press Gazette, Appleton Post-Crescent and eight other Wisconsin newspapers. The job will start in mid-March 2012.
The Louisiana team will supervise a similar team serving the Shreveport Times, Lafayette Daily Advertiser and three other Louisiana newspapers. The job will start in late July 2012.
Strong team leaders are creative page designers who lead by example, building quality packages and presentations in collaboration with local editors, reporters and photographers. Strong team leaders are solid managers who motivate and coach employees to exude creativity and teamwork. They are proactive leaders and passionate advocates of the First Amendment. They champion alternative forms of story-telling and engage readers with dynamic pages. They understand the need to raise the bar. The ideal candidates will have at least seven years of page design experience under deadline at a daily newspaper, including five years as a Page 1A designer creative. Management experience is preferred.
