WVU seeks Orientation Leaders

New Student Orientation is looking for passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable Orientation Leaders. Orientation Leaders serve a vital role in the day-long program. They are a selected group of students who represent the Mountaineer Spirit and WVU’s student-oriented mission. The goal of New Student Orientation is to help incoming students with the transition from high school to college and those transferring from another institution. The Orientation Leaders will show prospective students and families the downtown campus via a walking tour, as well as answer questions during the tour.

These positions require confidence, enthusiasm, sense of humor, excellent communication skills with a variety of personality types, familiarity with WVU programs and services, and passionate Mountaineer pride. The month of June is the primary period for New Student Orientation. New undergraduate students will participate in one of the 18 sessions offered during this month.

$5,000 scholarship opportunity

Journalism and communications majors at the graduate and undergraduate level who are of Greek American heritage may apply for annual scholarships given in the amount of $5,000 in memory of Peter Agris, the late founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle. The non-renewable grants have been offered by the Alpha Omega Council of New England and the Agris family for the last two decades.

Candidate criteria includes: Greek American heritage; current full-time enrollment as a journalism or communications major at the graduate or undergraduate level in an accredited college or university in the United States; active participation in school, community, church organizations; a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Local broadcast seeks volunteers/unpaid interns

The Coffee Talk Show (http://thecoffeetalkshow.com/), a new West Virginia talk show featuring artists, musicians, professionals and celebrity guests, is looking for volunteers and unpaid interns to assist during “day of show” events. The next show is February 14, 2012 8pm LIVE from the Met on High Street.

Volunteers will have various duties throughout the evening such as ushering the audience, assisting with merchandise tables, stage set-ups, tear-downs, production and audio crew, some security, etc. Plus, the volunteers will rotate throughout each event so they can help in one area then move on to another.

Big East Career Fair in NYC

The Big East Career Fair will be held on March 9, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Madison Square Garden, NYC.

Join students from all of the Big East Conference Colleges and Universities for the 2012 Big East Career Fair, held in conjunction with the basketball tournament. This event gives you access to nearly 100 employers nationwide, many of which will not be on our campus. This is a GREAT opportunity, especially if you want to live in the city! WVU Study Abroad Fair - Jan. 25!

WVU’s Study Abroad Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the WVU Mountainlair Blue & Gold Ballrooms.

The Study Abroad Fair provides students with the initial contacts and information that have led students on their journey. According to the Office of International Programs, in 2010-’11 more than 900 WVU students traveled to another country for study abroad courses.

The Virginian-Pilot seeks copy/agate editor

The Virginian-Pilot, a daily newspaper serving Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina, has an opening for a copy/agate editor for its sports desk. They need someone with strong word skills who has an interest in sports.

The successful candidate will edit and design our agate pages five nights a week, in addition to editing both sports and news section stories. He/she also must be able to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines, show strong organizational skills and be able to thrive in a team environment.
