SOJ launches project to help transform rural economies: Hosts competition to select additional pilot community

The WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism today launched a project that could help strengthen rural communities in West Virginia and beyond.

Led by Assistant Professor Dana Coester, the Mobile Main Street project is an initiative to engage small-community organizations, businesses and media in mobile app development and marketing to help fuel economic development in local communities.

WVVA in Beckley seeks reporter

WVVA Inc., in Bluefield, W.Va. is looking for an ambitious journalist to find, shoot, edit and report news from our station’s Beckley Bureau. Educational Broadcast Authority of WV is seeking an executive director

The Educational Broadcasting Authority of West Virginia (EBA) has begun its search for a new executive director. EBA will accept applications through Friday, December 7.

The executive director reports directly to the EBA and is responsible for the operation of the statewide public radio and television systems in West Virginia, (West Virginia Public Radio and West Virginia PBS) as well as a variety of educational services. The organization employs approximately 65 people located in Charleston, Beckley, and Morgantown.

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism is seeking applications from juniors, seniors and graduate students for its Professional Mentorship Program.

The program offers the opportunity to be mentored by outstanding professionals in the fields of advertising, public relations, broadcasting, print and multimedia journalism. Professionals can offer resume advice, networking opportunities, interview preparation, as well as an outlook on the current job market.

December graduation application deadline--Sept. 21

If you plan to graduate in December 2012, you must complete and return a graduation application to Ronda Maxon by no later than September 21st. Applications may be placed in the envelope on the side of Ms. Maxon’s cubicle.

If you do not turn in the application by Sept. 21, you will not be assured of having your records audited in time to pick up mid semester courses.

Leadership WV seeks alumni coordinator

Leadership West Virginia is seeking to hire an Alumni Coordinator to develop and maintain strong ongoing relationships with the program’s nearly 1000 graduates and to facilitate alumni engagement statewide. Primary responsibilities include interacting with alumni and current program participants, establishing an up-to-date database of alumni contact information, cultivating strong lines of communication between Leadership West Virginia and alumni by way of electronic and other forms of communication and planning events offering educational and other opportunities. A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required. Strong preference given to graduates of Leadership West Virginia. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster productive relationships with alumni/volunteers, develop alumni/volunteer leadership and manage projects and tasks.
