SPJ to host panel on freelancing

“Freelancing: Getting your foot in the newsroom door” is the topic of a special panel presentation 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Room 205 Martin Hall.

The event is designed for anyone who wants to get a start in the news business – print, broadcast or otherwise. It is co-sponsored by the SOJ’s chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Radio, Television, Digital News Association.

WVU journalism students participate in fifth-annual Take a Veteran to School Day

Public relations students from West Virginia University’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism will be getting a lesson in history as they capture the stories of more than 20 veterans over the next three days.

This month’s recording sessions are part of the Take a Veteran to School Day program, which was announced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller on Monday. The fifth annual event, which runs from Nov. 7-15, links veterans and students in high schools throughout the state and gives veterans a chance to share their experiences with a younger generation.

PRSSA releases latest newsletter

The WVU chapter of the public relations student society of America (PRSSA) has released their latest newsletter. It features articles about recent events PRSSA has held or attended, such as the PRSSA National Conference and a meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins PR team. The newsletter can be accessed at www.prssa.studentorgs.wvu.edu/newsletter and hard copies are available at the PRSSA bulletin board on the 2nd floor of Martin Hall.

Illinois newspaper seeks multimedia/photo intern for spring 2013

The Journal Star in Peoria, Ill. is seeking an intern to help with multimedia/photography for the spring 2013 semester.

BACKGROUND
This 72,000- circulation daily paper in Peoria, Ill. – the largest newspaper south of Chicago – is known as a great place for photojournalists year in and year out. Interns are paid and receive regular assignment work that will receive great display and build their skills. Interns are treated like any other member of the photo staff.
