Summer Congressional Internship with Sen. Manchin

Senator Manchin offers internship opportunities in both his D.C. and state offices. The internship program is designed to create a unique opportunity to enrich your academic experience with direct participation in the legislative process and public service.

Washington interns will have the chance to observe the operations of the U.S. Senate, as well as how the Senate interacts with the House of Representatives and the Executive Branch of the federal government. In addition to attending committee hearings, tracking legislation, and attending events in and around Washington D.C., interns should have reasonable expectations for mail room duties, administrative support and front office/reception experience.

The state office interns will gain another perspective – how elected officials can help constituents resolve problems with the federal government and how legislative activities connect with priorities and concerns at home. Students will have the opportunity to attend meetings, track legislation, assist in answering constituents’ requests, and facilitate in writing letters of support in addition to providing clerical support to our staff.

Interested students with a solid academic record, involvement within their school and/or community and eagerness to learn more about our federal government are encouraged to apply. The program is geared toward those who have completed at least a year of college. Successful applications will have strong writing and research skills, adaptability to a fast-paced environment and enthusiasm. It will be additionally helpful if students are familiar with computers, have good office manners and enjoy helping fellow West Virginians

Deadline is March 1 for the summer. If you are interested in Senator Manchin’s internship program, please forward a cover letter indicating your availability, resume and three references’ contact information (one of which should be an academic reference no more than one year old) to internapplicants@manchin.senate.gov or fax to 202-228-0002.
