WVU Extension Service seeks public relations intern for spring/summer 2013

West Virginia University’s Extension Service is accepting applications for its spring communications internship position.

The intern will serve primarily as a writer but will have the opportunity to assist with multimedia projects, website packages and event planning. The ideal candidate will

  • have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • have knowledge of AP Style.
  • be familiar with Final Cut Pro.
  • have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
  • be a self-starter.
  • be available for spring semester with the option to stay through summer.

This position requires that the student works a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes. Students not enrolled in classes during the summer sessions may work up to 37.5 hours per week.

Through its Extension Service, WVU provides a “mini campus” in each of the state’s 55 counties. The work at these locations addresses a wide variety of community issues via a nontraditional mix of learners, faculty, staff and volunteers. Part of an educational network of 105 land-grant universities, WVU-ES takes the helping hand of WVU directly to thousands of West Virginians in communities.

The position is based in Extension’s state office at Knapp Hall on WVU’s downtown campus in Morgantown. The position pays $8/hour for an undergraduate student and $11.50/hour for a graduate student.

Undergraduate students must be majoring in journalism, English or communications to be considered for the internship.

Graduate students must be majoring in or have an undergraduate degree in journalism, integrated marketing communications, English or communications.
