Reporter needed for Greenwood (S.C.) Index-Journal

The Greenwood (S.C.) Index-Journal, a 12,000-circulation daily newspaper, is looking for a talented, energetic and aggressive staff writer/reporter to join its award-winning team.
In the past three years, the Index-Journal collected 86 South Carolina Press Association awards. It won the President’s Cup, a points-based honor given to the best newspaper in each circulation category.

Our education reporter covers six school districts, one charter school, two four-year colleges and one technical college. Candidates should be aggressive in uncovering the truth and holding public officials accountable.

Along with covering those hard news elements, candidates will be expected to take readers inside the classroom and show trends in education. Writing will include profile pieces and features, as well as front-page content for our weekly Campus section, a 4-to-6-page Sunday section highlighting education.

The ideal candidate must understand local news matters and be able to convey that through stories and photos (when our award-winning photographer isn’t available).

If you think this job sounds like a good fit for you, and you have the desire to help us continue our award-winning, public-serving publication, we want to hear from you.

To apply, send your resume, a cover letter and 5-10 clips (we’re looking for enterprise, breaking news and well-written features) via regular mail or e-mail to:
