About the SOJ's May 2014 Commencement Ceremony

Below is an e-mail from Assistant Dean for Student Services Oliver Street.

Dear SOJ seniors and graduate students:

Many of you will be heading home for the Thanksgiving holiday to spend time with family and friends. This is often a time when families begin making plans for graduation. Please refer to the following information as you discuss spring plans.

(Note: If you are graduating in December, please visit http://journalism.wvu.edu/ for December event information.)

The School of Journalism recently determined that, in addition to May graduates, we will allow August graduates to participate in the May 2014 Commencement ceremony. Students who will complete all graduation requirements during the spring or summer 2014 terms will be allowed to walk in the May ceremony.

The May 2014 Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 am at the Creative Arts Center. Because of the continued growth of our May Commencement ceremony and limited number and size of venues, the ceremony will be a ticketed event again this year.

Each graduate will have access to a limited number of guest tickets (e.g., 4-6), which will be based on the number of responses to the online Ceremony RSVP in early spring. Ticket quantities and the claim process will be announced early in the spring semester. Please note that our graduation ceremony is typically streamed, so those without tickets or who cannot travel may still have an opportunity to view the ceremony either online or in an overflow seating area at the CAC.

Please keep in mind that the graduation application is separate from the ceremony RSVP. Be sure to watch your MIX email, SOJ eNews and the bulletin boards in Martin Hall for details early in the spring semester about the application and RSVP deadlines.

Enjoy the holiday and good luck with the rest of the semester!

Best wishes,

Oliver Street
Assistant Dean for Student Services
