WVU alumni return to Martin Hall for a two-year success panel

WVU alumni and former Martin-Hall Agency members Amy Bruzgo, Palmer Brown, Becca Rich and Katrina Sorrentino will be returning to WVU to share and discuss the strategies they used to get a good job. These WVU alumni will be sharing their knowledge and experiences with WVU students on Friday, February 21st at 5:00p.m in room 205 in Martin Hall.

These former WVU students have taken their experience from Martin Hall Agency and put it towards finding jobs in major cities in New York, Florida and Pennsylvania.

WVU Healthcare seeking Communications Specialist for intranet

WVU Healthcare is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in web content management, writing and editing for the web, web/project management and graphic design. He/she will be responsible for helping to develop the organization’s internal online presence.

The Communications Specialist must be a strong writer and have basic knowledge of HTML and Adobe Photoshop. He/she must possess the ability to organize information and make it web-ready and user-friendly. This individual must understand information architecture and the importance of providing positive user experiences by planning and designing the information structure for websites.

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism announces the 6th Annual Golden Quill Teaching Awards. The purpose of the awards is to reward outstanding teaching, mentoring, and advising in the School. The awards are based solely on student nominations. This is YOUR chance to recognize a teacher who has had a positive impact on your education in the School. Two awards will be given each year:

one award for full-time faculty and/or visiting professors, and
one award for instructors who have taught a three-credit hour class for at least three semesters.

WVU journalism professor extends project exploring race issues in southern WV

In 1919, two young sisters from West Virginia published a book of poetry confronting war and racism. In celebration of Black History Month, their story will come to light through an interactive experience to be launched at the Kimball World War I Memorial in McDowell County, W.Va.
“A Night at the Memorial”

“A Night at the Memorial” will feature an exploration of the new War Poems interactive website, developed by Dr. Joel Beeson, an associate professor in the West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism and director of the West Virginia Veterans History Project.

The Daily Climate is hiring a Climate Science Writer.
This position is full-time, benefits-eligible with a leading nonprofit journalism organization. The Daily Climate is one of two online news publications of Environmental Health Sciences. The Daily Climate, its sister publication Environmental Health News and EHS operate as fiscally-sponsored arms of Virginia Organizing, a Charlottesville, Va.-based nonprofit.

The position reports to Daily Climate Editor Douglas Fischer, and is funded by an annual, renewable grant.

SOJ alumnus to be inducted into the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni

SOJ alumnus Joseph P. Steranka (BSJ, 1979) will be inducted into the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni this week.

Joe Steranka has always had a passion for sports. In addition to many high-profile positions in sports marketing, Steranka spent 25 years with the PGA, his final seven years as the CEO.
