On Saturday, May 10, more than 200 master’s and bachelor’s degree candidates “looking for a new adventure” crossed the stage at the WVU Creative Arts to Center during the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism’s 2014 Commencement ceremony. Keynote speaker Amy Webb, founder and CEO of Webbmedia Group, began “in the great tradition of President Gee” by taking an epic selfie with the grads. She then followed it with a tweet to the Ellen DeGeneres Show asking them to hire our graduates. Webb’s entire speech, Today I’m Going to Predict Your Future: Five important things that will happen before your 20-year college reunion, is available on Medium.com.
Following Webb’s speech and the conferral of degrees, Associate Dean Dr. Diana Martinelli recognized top scholars in the undergraduate program. Lindsey Beall received the Top Overall Scholar award and the Top Scholar in Public Relations award; Alexis Cunningham received the Top Scholar in Advertising award; and Ian Moore was named Top Scholar in Journalism. The awards were determined based on overall GPA.
WVU celebrated its 145th year of Commencement ceremonies this year. If you would like to watch a video of the SOJ’s graduation, visit http://journalism.wvu.edu/about/featured-events/may-commencement-2014
