College of Media students win first place in contest sponsored by Target

Strategic communications seniors Amber Ravenscroft and Megan Woods are the winners of the first-ever Target Case Study competition at West Virginia University. The competition, which takes place at colleges and universities across the country, gives students a chance to win cash prizes by putting their marketing, management and social media skills to the test. Teams comprised of two to three people develop an advertising campaign for Target and give 20-minute presentations to representatives from the company.

Ravenscroft and Woods used augmented reality software by Qualcomm called Vuforia to create a digital marketing campaign for Target’s Threshold brand of home decor. As part of their presentation, they recommended that Target use the augmented reality software to allow customers to see what products would look like in their own homes. They also suggested the software could be used by customers to create a “dream room” which could then be uploaded into a social media sweepstakes to turn their digital dream room into a physical reality.
