2016 Pulliam Fellowship now accepting applications

The 2016 Pulliam Fellowship welcomes application’s for next year’s program. Twenty winners nationwide will be chosen for a 10-week internship, which will run from June 6 through August 12,2016 in Indianapolis and Phoenix.

For 42 years, the Pulliam Fellowship has awarded internships to promising journalists committed to news reporting. More than 600 Fellows have completed the program. many are still working in news. Four have won the Pulitzer Prize.

Eugene C. Pulliam of Central Newspapers created the Fellowship in 1974 for college graduates pursuing news reporting. Gannett Co. has continued the program since its purchase of Central Newspapers in 2000. We welcome applications from college juniors and seniors and graduate students. Most applicants have some prior news writing experience, including college newspapers.

Fellows will be assigned to either The Indianapolis Star or The Arizona Republic as reporters, photographers, and social media specialists. They also meet with editors for informal discussions on their careers and issues in journalism.

To apply, students must complete an application form found at http://static.indystar.com/en/pulliam/. Send it with the following; a recent photo; five to 15 writing samples, three letters of recommendation , and college grade transcripts.

The deadline is November 1, 2015. The internship pays $650 a week; transportation and housing are the intern’s responsibility.
