Welcome back from Fall Break! Here’s this week’s Opportunity Alert including a lot of local and big-time summer and post-graduate internships. Please read over these and consider applying today! · MARC USA, a national full-service IMC firm, will be on-campus Friday, November 6th interviewing StratComm juniors, seniors and graduate students for a paid summer internship at their Pittsburgh office. There are opportunities in client services/account management, media buying/planning, creative, interactive/web design, public relations, and account planning/marketing research. · The Evolve Brand Co of Morgantown seeks an event planning intern to start immediately and work through May 2016. Evolve is a conference for business professionals looking to sharpen their skills and achieve more in their careers. The events intern will need to work 12 hours per week and participate in Evolve events. Duties include administrative and project management, assisting with client relations, and assisting with marketing efforts. · Chat Sports seeks a Sports Marketing Campus Ambassador for WVU. This intern will assist with the nationwide launch of the new Chat Sports Android App. This intern will design and execute social media campaigns across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and LinkedIn. Paid internships at Chat Sports’ San Francisco Headquarters will be available this summer. You must be a member of at least two on-campus organizations and there is a minimum GPA requirement. · The WVU College of Law is looking for a student worker to help move content to the new Clean Slate platform. The position pays between $9 and $10 an hour. This is also an opportunity to gain some experience in coding and web content management. Contact me for application instructions.

· The WVU Rugby team is exploring the option of developing an internship to help serve as a media specialist. This person would help manage the team’s website, do regular write-ups on games and video interviews for the team’s online and social media audience. Details are still being worked out, but contact me if you’re interested!

· The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is seeking applications for paid news internships during Summer 2016. Positions include news reporting, sports reporting, copy editing, multimedia graphics and photography. Most internships are based in the Pittsburgh newsroom (on the city’s North Shore), but some are based in the Tribune-Review newsroom in Greensburg or the Valley News Dispatch in Tarentum, PA. Interns are treated like full-time staffers and are expected to produce quality work and coverage ideas. Internships typically last between 11 and 13 weeks. A car and valid drivers’ license are required. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in college. Recent grads and grad students are also eligible. To apply, indicate which internship interests you the most, email your cover letter, resume and work samples to internships@tribweb.com. Writers should submit a maximum of six clips. Photographers should provide 10 single images, a photo story and a video. Artists should provide samples of work appearing online or in print. Copy editors should include headline and layout samples and, if possible, before and after samples of stories they’ve edited. · The Washington Week Fellowship for Emerging Journalists is accepting applications now! This is a five-month paid position where you can gain hands-on, real-world experience working on “Washington Week with Gwen Ifill,” the longest-running news analysis program on PBS. For consideration, include a cover letter, resume, contact information for three professional references and a sample of your work (writing, video production, or web content). · Next Generation Radio at KJZZ in Phoenix, Arizona, is accepting applications for its multimedia training project. The weeklong event will emphasize discovering and exploring the craft of radio storytelling. The session for Advanced Undergraduates and Graduate students will be held January 4-8. Next Generation Radio provides course materials, transportation, lodging, one meal per day, and access to professionals and production facilities. You’ll need to bring your own laptop and smartphone. · The High Country News, an environmental journal based in Paonia, Colorado, is accepting applications for journalism internships and fellowships. The magazine has 25,000 subscribers and reaches 60,000 readers. They’re offering six six-month long internships (starting in June and in January) and a yearlong fellowship (starting in January). They provide housing, and a $220/week stipend for interns and free housing and a $375/week stipend for fellows. An additional $500 travel stipend is available to help defray moving costs. Interns spend most of their researching, interviewing, writing and developing content. · The Dow Jones News Fund is accepting applications for its 2016 Internship Program. College juniors, seniors, and grad students can apply. Interns will be trained at New York University, Arizona State University, The University of Missouri, Temple University, Penn State, and the University of Texas (Austin) before reporting to work at media companies across the country. Interns will earn $400/week for 10-12 weeks. New this year is a program in data journalism with training directed by Investigative Reporters and Editors at Missouri. The fund and sponsoring media companies cover travel costs to and from training and your internship site. Students who return to school after their internship will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Participating news organizations include The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Comcast, Dow Jones Newswires, The Denver Post, Los Angeles Times, Thomson Reuters, Media General, MSN, E.W. · The DC-based Institute on Political Journalism and Communications is now accepting applications for its Summer 2016 program. This 8-week program (through George Washington University) allows students to intern in the fields of journalism, public relations, and communications. Placement is guaranteed to students who are accepted. Housing is fully furnished by the program. Internship placements include newspapers, magazines, online publications, news services, PR and communications firms. Apply by the early deadline of December 10th to receive priority admissions and scholarship consideration and a 5% tuition discount. · ProPublica, an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism is hiring a Reporting Fellow. The fellowship is a minimum of 16 weeks and can last for up to a year. This is a full-time position, based in New York. Compensation is $700/week. Fellows will write their own stories, but also collaborate with ProPublica’s reporters on bigger projects.
