College of Media alumna to become USGA's second-ever female president

Diana MurphyIn December, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the nomination of Diana M. Murphy to serve a one-year term as the 64th President of the USGA. Murphy, a 1978 alumna of the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism (now the WVU Reed College of Media) and Princeton, West Virginia, native, is the second woman in USGA’s 121-year history to be nominated for president. She will begin serving her term in early February following the USGA’s annual meeting. Murphy began her affiliation with the USGA in 1996 when she became a member of the Association’s Membership Committee. Since then, she has held several positions with the Association including treasurer and vice president. In addition to her work at the USGA, Murphy is the managing director of Rocksolid Holdings, LLC, a private-equity firm focused on small business and real estate. She is also managing director of the Georgia Research Alliance Venture Fund, which supports the state’s public and private research universities. Past appointments include an 11-year stint as managing director of Chartwell Capital Management Company, a private equity firm in Jacksonville, Florida, and senior vice president of The Baltimore Sun Company for 15 years. Upon her graduation from WVU, Murphy worked as an account executive in Maryland for radio stations WAYE and WETT and the Towson Times newspaper.
