College of Media students won six Crystal awards and one honorable mention for their outstanding campaigns and projects at the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) West Virginia Chapter Awards Gala in Charleston on June 13. The Crystal Award is the top prize in each of the Association’s award categories and honors the most exceptional communications and public relations work in West Virginia.
For the second year in a row, the WVU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society
of America, led by faculty adviser Geah Pressgrove, was recognized as the Chapter
of the Year with a Crystal Award.
Additionally, Associate Professor Rita Colistra’s students won the following:
- Crystal Award - Community Relations Campaign for Mountaineer Boys Girls Club "Celebrating 20 Years" Campaign
- Crystal Award - Social Media for Mountaineer Boys Girls Club
Assistant Professor Geah Pressgrove’s capstone students won the following:
- Crystal Award - Community relations campaign for Rainelle Agriculture Learning Center – Gardening for Good
- Crystal Award - Website for Herbert Hoover High School - STEMulate success
- Honorable mention - Internal relations campaign for Herbert Hoover High School - STEMulate success
Rising senior Jake Shockley won a Crystal Award in the Long-Form Video category for a video he produced for the Department of Forensics and Investigative Sciences to highlight their program. The video was the culmination of a project in Professor MaryKay McFarland’s Advanced Video Storytelling course and can be viewed at https://forensics.wvu.edu.
In addition, College of Media alumna Jordan Pence Ferrell (BSJ, 2013) was namedthe West Virginia Young Professional of the Year.Ferrell is the director of accounts and client relations at the West Virginia Department of Commerce.
