Welcome!

Congratulations on your acceptance to West Virginia University and the Reed College of Media. You're now a part of a global Mountaineer community that includes students, alumni, faculty and staff who are ready to support you through this exciting journey. So, let's get started!

Activate Your Student Account and Email

  1. Go to login.wvu.edu and click on Claim Account.
  2. Enter your name, date of birth and the WVU ID provided on your acceptance letter.
  3. You will then receive the information needed to access the Portal. From there, go to students.wvu.edu and enter the WVU Portal where you can access your Mountaineer Information Xpress (MIX) email and complete the first step required to enroll at WVU — paying your academic deposit.

Two-Factor Authentication

All students are required to be enrolled in Duo two-factor authentication. This secures your account by confirming your identity in two ways -- with something you KNOW (your login password) and something you HAVE (an app on your smartphone, tablet or display token). You should be able to download the Duo Mobile app from your devices app store. When you attempt to log into the WVU Portal, you will be prompted to set Duo up on your device. You will need to enroll in two-factor authentication before you can access any WVU systems.

Tips

  • You will use WVU Portal to access STAR, DegreeWorks and eCampus — all important online programs. Through the Portal, you can send and receive email, pay the academic deposit, pay tuition and fees and check your grades.
  • You can use the WVU Parent/Guest Portal to grant permission to a parent or guardian or a guest so they can make payments or access your student records, such as grades, financial aid details and student/billing information.
  • Check your WVU email regularly. We will send information about important deadlines and announcements to your WVU email address, and faculty will use this email to send course information.

Need Help?

If you have any problems logging in, please call the WVU IT Service Desk at 304-293-4444.

Access Your Online Classes

These are the key WVU systems you should get to know. They're your go-to for student account information, class registration, accessing your online courses, checking email and more!

WVU Portal

The WVU Portal, a mobile-friendly application at portal.wvu.edu, provides WVU students with a single front door to a variety of services and applications, including accessing WVU eCampus (your online class platform), Gmail, and STAR (your student account and class registration tool).

Access WVU Portal

eCampus

Most of our online courses are delivered via a web-based course management system called WVU eCampus. You will not have access to WVU eCampus until the start date of the course(s) in which you are enrolled.

STAR

STAR is where you can view your academic records, update your personal information, register for courses, see grades, view your financial aid status and more.

Two-factor Authentication

All students are required to be enrolled in Duo two-factor authentication.
