SPJ Broadcast Reporters Institute: Training New Journalists

The Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to announce an exciting training program for young journalists who have graduated and are in their first three years in the broadcast journalism profession. It’s a crash course in the characteristics of outstanding journalism and the techniques of exceptional journalists.

During the three-day Reporters Institute at The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., we will examine:

  • Making sound, defensible decisions and how those decisions affect our viewers
  • Creating a document-driven newsroom that relies on and embraces public information and its role in our democracy.
  • Making technology work for you and assist in your story telling
  • How to prepare for, land and handle interviews
  • Making sound ethical decisions
  • The industry – its challenges and triumphs, and where it might be going
  • And much more!

More program information is at http://www.spj.org/ri-broadcast-program.asp

If you’re a recent graduate and new to the broadcast journalism profession, consider applying. If you’re a seasoned pro, please share this message with a young journalist who will appreciate your interest in his or her success.
