The West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) is seeking a Communications Intern (paid) to assist with communications efforts for the statewide initiative administered by the WVU Research Corporation.
The successful candidate should be comfortable with social media communications, video editing applications, web, and text platforms. Responsibilities will include managing the institute’s media clip file, organizing and managing the digital photo library, drafting and scheduling social media posts, assisting at WVCTSI events, and other duties as part of the WVCTSI Strategic Communications Plan.

This summer, a group of School of Journalism students have stepped outside their comfort and time zone. Seventeen of the School’s strategic communications students have traveled to China for a month-long learning experience that will forever change how they see their place in the world.
The trip is part of a partnership between the School and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in Guangzhou, China. Harrison/Omnicom Visiting Professor in Integrated Marketing Communications Jim Ebel organized the trip, which includes an IMC course and a two-week internship.
Inspired by the lessons of her mother, Paula Otto, a 1983 West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism alumna, has created a new scholarship in her mother’s name.
Otto says this scholarship is special because they started it together, and her mother was pleased to contribute to the fund before she passed away last month.
Kendal Montgomery (BSJ, 2009) went to Santiago, Chile, after graduating from the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism. She wanted to use her newly minted journalism skills while living and working abroad, but what started as a five-month internship at The Santiago Times has turned into a new life for this West Virginia native. The Arnold Agency, an integrated marketing firm with offices in West Virginia, Montana and Washington, D.C. —founded by SOJ alumna Linda Arnold (BSJ, 1976)—has officially joined Asher Agency. Asher Agency is a 40-year old advertising, marketing and public relations agency with a staff of over 60 employees operating offices in five states.
The Arnold Agency is being rebranded as the West Virginia office of the Asher Agency and will join other marketing and media firms under the umbrella of Eastport Holdings. In a move Linda Arnold refers to as a “good cultural fit,” the Asher Agency will do business in 25 states.
The Associated Press Sports Editors are sponsoring four $1,500 scholarships for collegiate sports journalists.
APSE, a national organization of sports editors, is awarding four scholarships to help motivate talented students to pursue careers in sports journalism. Collegiate sports journalists entering their sophomore, junior or senior years are eligible for the scholarships which will awarded based on the students’ journalistic work, their academic record, financial need, and geography. The scholarships will be awarded to students from four different regions of the United States. The winners will be chosen by the APSE scholarship committee, which is chaired by Joe Sullivan, sports editor of the Boston Globe and includes editors from all sections of the United States. Deadline is June 1.
