WVU Center for Women's & Gender Studies seeks intern

The West Virginia University Center for Women’s & Gender Studies is advertising a position for an intern who will help publicize and coordinate activities for the Center during the 2012/2013 academic year. This person should be currently enrolled as a WVU student with a background in women’s & gender studies and/or a commitment to social justice issues. The position is part-time (10-15 hours per week depending on need and availability) with a pay rate of $10 per hour and will start during the fall 2012 semester.

Colistra receives state, national awards

WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism professor Dr. Rita Colistra takes pride in making a difference in the classroom and in the community. Now her professional peers are recognizing her efforts.

Dr. Colistra, assistant professor of public relations in the School of Journalism, recently won three prestigious awards for her dedication to teaching and community service through projects like “Buy Local” campaigns in Ritchie County and Fairmont, W.Va.; campaigns to promote the WVU Center for Civic Engagement; and The House That WVU Built, a Habitat for Humanity partnership.

Pay Your Bill to Avoid Being Dropped

Students registered for summer classes should check their MIX for messages from Student Accounts. Students who have not paid their bills in full will be dropped on the following dates: Monday, June 4 for the period covering May 21 through June 8; Monday, June 25 for the period covering May 21 through June 29; Monday, July 16 for the period covering May 21 through July 20; Monday, Aug 06 for the period covering May 21 through Aug 10. Students who registered for classes but decided not to enroll should send an email from MIX to registrar@mail.wvu.edu with the message “Not Returning” so tuition and fee charges can be cleared from your account. Be sure to include your name and last 4 digits of your WVU ID in the e-mail.

WVU's Student Government Association is looking for a PR Director

The PR director for West Virginia University’s Student Government Association (SGA) will be in charge of internal and external communications, media relations, social media, and marketing. The director will be expected to uphold the organization’s brand and reputation, as well as publicly advocate its stated goals.

On Eagles' Wings Therapeutic Horsemanship Center seeks PR intern

On Eagles’ Wings Therapeutic Horsemanship Center provides a safe environment for individuals with disabilities, enabling them to enrich and enhance their lives through equine assisted activities and therapies. Participants include children and adults with physical, cognitive, emotional, and social disabilities and challenges. The intern will maintain a positive presence in the North Central, W.Va., community by updating and maintaining all social media outlets, writing and sending press releases, maintaining good media relations, assisting with maintaining a newsletter, managing promotional items, assisting with fundraising events, and assisting with website maintenance. The intern will need to be flexible enough to visit the center to take photographs, some video and also conduct interviews for press pieces. This is a paid position.
