Big East Career Fair in NYC

Big East Career Fair in NYC
March 9, 2012 from 10 AM to 3 PM
Madison Square Garden, NYC!!!

Join students from all of the Big East Conference Colleges and Universities for the 2012 Big East Career Fair, held in conjunction with the basketball tournament. This event gives you access to nearly 100 employers nationwide, many of which will not be on our campus. This is a GREAT opportunity, especially if you want to live in the city! It is free to attend the career fair. WVU also provides affordable hotel and transportation accommodation for interested students; see below.

HOTEL AND TRANSPORTATION DETAILS
The cost is $150 per student and includes transportation to and from Morgantown to NYCand two nights in a hotel (great deal!). Students planning to take advantage of Career Service’s transportation and hotel accommodations must sign up separately. Hotel and transportation are available to juniors, seniors, and graduate students only.

Freshman, sophomores and alumni are welcome to attend the fair if making their own way to NYC.

AGENDA FOR STUDENTS USING OUR TRANSPORTATION
Depart Morgantown on Thursday, March 8 and return on Saturday, March 10. This will give you ample time to enjoy NYC and potentially interview with other companies in the city (you can arrange on your own).

SOJ students take on high-profile internships

What are the chances that two students from the same small town in West Virginia can make it big in network television? Two West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism students, Ashton Marra and Jamie McCracken, are hoping that the odds are pretty good. In fact, the television journalism seniors are off to a great start – snagging internships Ashton Marraat ABC and ESPN.

Marra, a native of Clarksburg, W.Va., will be heading to New York City in January to begin her internship at ABC News. During her four months there, Marra will conduct research and team with producers and reporters to coordinate interviews. She may also have the chance to have bylined work on ABCNews.com. Marra, who reported for the School’s award-winning student newscast, “WVU News,” hopes this internship will help her learn what it takes to be successful in network television.

Des Moines Register Media seeks design team managers

The Design Studio at Des Moines Register Media is seeking two experienced newspaper page designers with solid management and people skills to lead teams which will design 15 newspapers in Wisconsin and Louisiana.

The Wisconsin team leader will supervise a team designing front pages, local news fronts and other local news pages for the Green Bay Press Gazette, Appleton Post-Crescent and eight other Wisconsin newspapers. The job will start in mid-March 2012.

Des Moines Register Media seeks designers

The Design Studio at Des Moines Register Media is seeking creative, collaborative newspaper page designers to help produce compelling pages for The Des Moines Register and many other newspapers, including the Green Bay Press Gazette, Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Shreveport Times and 17 additional sites from Wisconsin to Louisiana.
Their Design Studio gives page designers an opportunity to work with and learn from each other in a creative atmosphere. They’re looking for experienced news, sports and features designers as well as new and recent college graduates eager to launch a career. They want enthusiastic team players eager to take bold, creative risks to lure readers into well-layered stories. News professionals who champion the First Amendment and work collaboratively with editors, reporters, photographers and artists to develop great story-telling methods.

Experience designing news and magazine pages under deadline pressure in a professional or college setting and using InDesign, PhotoShop and/or other popular software is preferred.

WVU Health Sciences seeks Spring 2012 intern

WVU Health Sciences is seeking students with an interest in working in a professional environment with a productive health research team for the Office of Nursing Research. The primary responsibility of this Office is to support the research and scholarship of faculty within the School of Nursing. Students will receive training and must complete an on-line CITI Human Subjects Research Certificate once hired.

The department’s website, quarterly newsletters, and billboards will be regularly updated; therefore, ideal candidates will have some experience with visual communication, journalism, graphic design, and website design. Excellent writing, communication, and Microsoft Office skills are required.

Media Relations Intern

Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va., is currently searching for a media relations intern to begin immediately. The intern will report directly to the Director of Communications. This is an intensive writing position, proven experience in news writing, feature writing and/or editing are a plus.

Internship responsibilities include but are not limited to, gathering information, contacting media outlets, proof college publications, post news stories to the College’s Web site and writing news releases and feature pieces about the College’s students, programs, activities, events and personnel.
