The National Business Aviation Association is a professional organization that is dedicated to helping aviation business professionals. Each year they have a scholarship program for students interested in a career in journalism.
The David W. Ewald Journalism Scholarship was established in honor of David W. Ewald, who was a magazine publisher in the business aviation industry. This scholarship award is open to all students who are either enrolled or accepted at college or university program in journalism or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants who are interested in aviation journalism. This scholarship award is worth $1,000.

The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association’s (NLGJA) 2011 National Convention & 8th Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Media Summit will take place August 25-28 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Philadelphia, Pa.
NLGJA is an organization of journalists, media professionals, educators and students working from within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues. NLGJAopposes all forms of workplace bias and provides professional development to its members.
The West Virginia University Center for Women’s Studies is advertising a position for an intern who will help plan and coordinate activities for the Center during the 2011/2012 academic year. This person should be currently enrolled as a WVU student with a background in women’s studies and/or a commitment to social justice issues. The position is part-time (10-15 hours per week depending on need and availability) with a pay rate of $10 per hour. The internship will start during the fall 2011 semester. The person should have the ability to perform the following tasks:
1) Develop and communicate information about events and activities associated with the program through the WMST website a. Maintain the Center’s Facebook page to communicate with WMST constituents b. Take photographs and organize documents associated with the Center’s history and activities to post on Facebook and the website
The College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is seeking a graduate assistant to specialize in Graduate Engineering Recruitment. This student’s main responsibility will be devising communication plans for graduate recruiting, communications pieces, and scheduling the timing for communications delivery. The responsibilities are not limited to this, and may also include drafting letters for graduate recruitment to be sent to schools and individual students; planning, assisting with, and attending evening and weekend sessions for graduate information fairs; and assisting with and attending graduate college fairs on behalf of the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
Urban Outfitters Photo Producer is responsible for producing the photo shoots for Catalog, Internal Marketing, PR, Lookbooks, and Retail Display. This includes managing the Photo Dept. budget as well as meeting with and sourcing models, photographers and locations that reflect the overall feel of the brand. Along with the Photo Director, the Photo Producer will identify talent that reflects the overall seasonal creative concept as well as the liaising with outside production companies. FashionIndie and Fashion News Live are inviting aspiring fashion reporters to submit their reels showcasing their talent as a host and fashion personality for the chance to co-host a runway show at New York Fashion Week in September 2011. The Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarship and Journalism Conference was held July 9-14 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Dean Reed participated in the panel, “Preparing for College and a Journalism career.”
Additional panelists included: Mary Kay Blake, the senior vice president of development for the Newseum; Will Norton Jr., dean of the Meek School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi; Orage Quarles III, president and publisher of The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.; and Trina Williams, producer for NPR Newscast.
Virginia Press Women, an organization of men and women dedicated to excellence in journalism and other communication professions, is proud to offer a $550 scholarship to a deserving Virginia college student interested in pursuing a career in communications.
The Agnes Cooke scholarship competition is open to any Virginia college student or to any Virginia resident attending an out-of-state college. Scholarship applicants must be planning a career in journalism, photo journalism, public relations or another related communications field. Applicants do not have to be enrolled in a journalism degree program to qualify, but strong evidence of a commitment to the field of communications is essential.
