Description:

The Chronicle of Higher Education seeks an experienced reporter to cover academic rigor in higher education. This reporter will write stories that examine key questions facing colleges about their enduring value, including: How much are students learning? How should the worth of a college education be measured? How should academic quality be improved? This reporter will also oversee our coverage of college teaching and curriculum, as well as research on higher education, and must be able to write vivid stories from inside college classrooms. He or she will examine day-to-day issues facing college faculty, who are juggling competing pressures from students, administrators, lawmakers, and the public at a time when class sizes are rising, resources are diminishing, and demands for accountability are high.

WV Gubernatorial Candidate seeks campaign intern

Bill Maloney is the Republican candidate for governor in this year’s
special election. His campaign is based in Morgantown, W.Va., and his team is looking for summer interns to assist with the campaign.

Students would work directly with senior staff and the candidate on a
variety of tasks in the communications, political, and office spheres.
This election is one of only four in the nation in 2011, and has and
will continue to receive national media attention. This year’s special
election creates a unique opportunity for students with this type of
interest.

Web and social media editor, Bucknell University

The Web and Social Media Editor plays a key role in the success of the communications and marketing efforts of Bucknell University. Founded in Lewisburg, PA in 1846, Bucknell is one of America’s top-ranked liberal arts universities and also its largest. In our idyllic campus setting, Bucknell combines the personal experience of an intimate liberal arts college with first-class research facilities, global study opportunities, and 110 majors and minors in everything from accounting to engineering, neuroscience to theatre. Our 3,450 undergraduates and 150 graduate students come from every state and nearly 60 countries. The Office of Communications is a comprehensive division charged with communicating the Universitys story to the world and encompasses web, digital, video, print, media, social media and other formats. The editor is a crucial member of this creative and proactive communications team.

The editor is responsible for writing, researching and placing news and events stories on the Universitys homepage and key website pages, integrating website and social media content, and playing a key role in developing and coordinating social media content across all platforms in support of the communications and marketing strategy. The editor will report to the Director of Media Communications and work closely with the Director of Digital Communications and the Web Development team to develop and implement digital media initiatives.

WV Public Broadcasting seeks public affairs reporter/producer

West Virginia Public Broadcasting seeks a full-time reporter for its Charleston newsroom.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have excellent reporting, interviewing, writing and electronic news gathering skills to produce substantive radio/television stories for a statewide and regional audience. This person must be able to maintain high journalistic standards of fairness under deadline pressure. Above all, this reporter must work collaboratively with others in a multimedia newsroom. Two years reporting experience required. Previous experience with posting to the web and using social media is highly desirable. Bachelor’s degree or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
