WV Community Development Hub VISTA Opportunity

The VISTA member will build the Hub’s communications capacity by developing a communications strategy, promoting brand awareness developing communications toolkits and guides that can be shared with Network partners and communities, and training WV Community Development Network partners and communities in social media and website development and management. This member will coordinate with the Executive Director, Director of Community Strategies and the Operations Coordinator leadership team to support the Hub’s missions; ensuring consistency in message; and developing, monitoring and maintaining an active social media network. This position will also build the Hub’s overall organizational capacity by expanding the Community Development Network and enhancing communications among Network participants.

Responsibilities
– Design, in collaboration with the Hub’s leadership team, and implement a communications strategy to build the capacities of the Network and the Hub. Ensure its effectiveness and encourage adoption of relevant social media techniques into the Hub’s culture, and that of all of the organization’s initiatives and partners. 
– Work with the leadership team to develop procedures to ensure social media tools (for ex. FB, Twitter, website, Constant Contact) are kept up to date and monitored. 
– Develop and initiate social media campaigns and day-to-day activities. Duties include online advocacy, community outreach/ networking efforts, promotions, blogs, etc.
– Enhance the Hub’s presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed
– Become an advocate of the Hub in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
– Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize capacity building results
– Regularly feed back insights gained from social media monitoring to the leadership teams, to help them evolve their strategies in a timely fashion
– Monitor trends in social media tools and applications
– Develop toolkits and guides on organizational communications that can be disseminated to, and implemented by, others in the WV Community Development Network.
– Provide training and coaching on media to communities and Network partners as possible

New Mobile Main Street app released

A second community newspaper launched its mobile app this month as part of the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism’sMobile Main Street project. The app is designed to not only enhance economic development in the community but will also test a new source of revenue for newspapers.

GoHampshire, now available for iPhone and iPad, is a local guide and directory for readers of the Hampshire Review. The app features local news stories for Hampshire County, W.Va., as well as an interactive directory for finding and sharing local businesses.

Summer Congressional Internship with Sen. Manchin

Senator Manchin offers internship opportunities in both his D.C. and state offices. The internship program is designed to create a unique opportunity to enrich your academic experience with direct participation in the legislative process and public service.

Washington interns will have the chance to observe the operations of the U.S. Senate, as well as how the Senate interacts with the House of Representatives and the Executive Branch of the federal government. In addition to attending committee hearings, tracking legislation, and attending events in and around Washington D.C., interns should have reasonable expectations for mail room duties, administrative support and front office/reception experience.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of America Summer Internship Program

Make-A-Wish® America is proud to announce that we are now accepting general applications for our summer internship program.

15 full-time, paid internships are being offered in summer 2013 for current, full-time college students to further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience. Specific summer internship positions and job descriptions will be posted in mid-January, however, only one application is needed. All internships are set to begin on June 3, 2013, based at our World Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona for 10 weeks, compensated on an hourly basis ($10.00).

New Jersey residents wanted for new media internship -- Deadline Dec. 31!

The New Jersey Press Foundation is seeking a new media intern for one of its member media companies. This PAID, six-week internship is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors attending New Jersey colleges and to New Jersey residents attending other U.S. colleges.
