Gee to Mountaineer Family: Culture Change Needed on College Campuses

Dear Mountaineer Family:

Nolan Burch was an 18-year-old freshman full of energy and enthusiasm. Those who knew him well spoke of his love for life, his positive attitude and his passion for West Virginia University. His parents shared with me the excitement they all felt as he unpacked his belongings at Summit Hall this past August. That excitement turned to grief last week, when on Friday, November 14, Nolan Burch passed away.

Scholarship available to students interested in sports journalism with special interest in golf

The Travis Memorial Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a career in one of the following professions: landscape design/golf course architecture; golf course turf grass management/golf course superintendent; professional golf management, club professional, or sports journalism with a special interest in golf.

Applicants for The Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited two-or four-year college/university, in a program of study that will prepare the student for a career in one of the above-mentioned professions.

Rediscover downtown on a culinary adventure

On December 6, Morgantown residents will have the opportunity to sample cuisine from more than a dozen downtown restaurants during the first-ever Morgantown Eats: A Culinary Crawl. Self-guided tours will be available starting at 3 p.m. with groups starting from the Monongalia Arts Center (MAC) at 107 High Street. Participants will be provided with a list of restaurants to tour as well as a map to help avoid directional confusion.

The University of Pittsburgh seeks communications coordinator

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Communications Coordinator that serves for Panther Central. This includes the ID Center, Housing and Food Services. As Communications Coordinator, the incumbent, in conjunction with the Assistant Manager, will be responsible for managing all marketing, advertising, and image and brand plans and initiatives for Panther Central. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for strategically evaluating the current Panther Central brand and identifying opportunities to improve Panther Central visibility among students, staff, and faculty to improve marketing efforts and communications to those target groups. The incumbent will be required to research and analyze data to enhance existing programs and design and implement new programs and initiatives. The Communications Coordinator will write content, design, and distribute all Panther Central communications, including but not limited to brochures, general email communications, and social media content. The Communications Coordinator is tasked with ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment of communications with the Panther Central image and vision.

The Communications Coordinator must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as strong organizational skills. The incumbent must also demonstrate the ability to operate in a team-oriented environment. The ability to think critically and creatively is required.
