The International Center for Performance Excellence (ICPE) seeks public relations and marketing interns

The International Center for Performance Excellence (ICPE) is seeking qualified public relations and marketing interns for its book publishing unit, Fitness Information Technology (FiT). Internships are volunteer-based. If applicable, the ICPE will work with students to secure course credits for the FiT internships. Candidates will gain hands-on experience in international public relations and marketing practices of academic books and digital products in physical activity and sport sciences. Students will learn all aspects of writing press materials including, but not limited to, press releases, pitch letters, author bios, and publicity review reports in all formats, including broadcast, print, and electronic mediums.

Two internships are available for the summer, and three positions will be available in the fall 2010. At a minimum, required skills include strong public relations and business writing, Internet research skills, basic sales and arketing experience/studies, and familiarity with direct marketing techniques. Qualified candidates are organized, capable of multi-tasking and confident in verbal and oral presentation skills. Students will have experience using MS Office products (MS Word, Excel, Access, etc), and experience using social media for professional purposes.

ACE Adventure Resort seeks social media interns

Manage an interactive kiosk while playing in the outdoors and learning about social media marketing. Our client, ACE Adventure Resort, is the largest adventure resort in North America and the largest whitewater rafting outfitter in West Virginia. Their 1,500-acre resort offers zip line canopy tours, rock climbing, ATVs, a 5-acre lake, and more (18 activities in all). ACE is located in Oak Hill, West Virginia.

We’re looking for students with excellent communication skills and outgoing personalities, familiarity with Internet technology and social networks, and journalism skills (writing, photography, video) are a big plus. The position is unpaid, but includes daily free adventure activities and housing in one of ACE’s cabins. Interns who demonstrate superior performance will be considered for paid work.

SOJ professor, students to tell the stories of African American war vets through interactive exhibit

The small town of Kimball in McDowell County may seem an unlikely place to house the nation’s only war memorial honoring World War I African American soldiers, but as one might imagine, there is a story to tell.

This summer, West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism Associate Professor Joel Beeson and three students are working to document that story and create a public exhibit at the Kimball War Memorial Building.

Palestra.net offering paid internships to student video journalists

Palestra.net is looking for paid interns, beginning fall of 2010.

Palestra.net provides stories of interest to college students across the U.S. They are based in Columbus, Ohio. Their site was launched in 2006, with the goal of building a network of on-campus reporters that would provide students an opportunity to work as paid journalists, while creating unique, entertaining and diverse content for an audience of their peers.
