POSITION: Communications Manager
Division of Science and Research

DUTIES  RESPONSIBILITIES: The communications manager for the Division of Science and Research is responsible for developing and implementing all public information activities to serve the needs of and promote the Division’s state and federal programs. Duties of this position include: Developing and executing a public relations/media and marketing plan for the division;
Preparing and distributing news releases and media alerts, and working with local, state and national media; Planning, preparing and maintaining website content; Serving as managing editor of a quarterly journal; Writing and editing magazine articles, speeches, funding proposals, electronic presentations, correspondence, reports, advertising and display copy, brochures and other publications; Assisting with development of policy initiatives and working with state and national policymakers; Working closely with higher education institution faculty and staff to meet division communications objectives related to science and research initiatives; Representing the division at meetings; Planning, developing and manning displays at meetings and events; Developing and tracking metrics to evaluate communications initiatives; Collecting and analyzing data; Producing an annual report of division activities; Planning and executing special events, meetings, workshops and symposia; and Performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in journalism, public relations or other communications or media-related field. Fours years of public relations experience or news media experience at the professional level. Additional experience in public relations or news media may be substituted for the Master’s degree. Commitment to team approach required. Interest in and/or background in a science or technical field is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively and work in a fast-paced environment; proficiency with computers; and excellent project management skills are essential.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
