The fellowship, named for the late CBS foreign correspondent and WVU alumni Frank Kearns, gives students the opportunity to cover an international news event. After leaving CBS, Kearns returned to WVU where he served as Benedum Professor of Journalism until 1983.
This year, Nelson, a junior from Wellsburg, W.Va., will cover the European Journalism Training Academy’s Annual General Meeting at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris. The trip, scheduled for May, will include tours of French media outlets, as well as the chance to visit journalism schools in the region.
