Account Relationship Specialist (FT): responsible for achieving monthly and annual advertising revenue goals by working in a team with Field Sales Representatives to present and sell an effective mix of products and programs to new and existing clients. In addition to sales, duties include organizing and submitting ad copy, art and layout by deadline, completing accurate advertising orders, submitting client contracts and completing sales reporting. Top-notch customer service skills are essential. Requires a minimum of two years relevant sales experience or equivalent education. Marketing and business coursework or experience is a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills should include 40 wpm typing and a working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet and database applications.

Assistant Politics/State Editor (FT): Responsibilities include supervising the politics/state team, prioritizing assignments and editing government/political copy for print and online, developing story ideas and ensuring consistent flow of strong enterprise for 1A leads and centerpieces. Lead in the development and execution of coverage plans for elections and special projects and assist in the management of political digital products, web and mobile. Produce exclusive content for politics website including audio, video chats and searchable databases. Candidate must have previous experience as an assignment editor and the ability to guide top-shelf enterprise and watchdog work. Previous experience in supervising political or state Capitol coverage a plus. Hours are 10AM-8PM Monday – Thursday and Friday 12PM-10PM.

Religious Newswriters Association announces Chandler Award

Every year, the Religion Newswriters Association (RNA) based at the University of Missouri administers the Chandler Award for students, which honors excellence in student writing with an emphasis on reporting skills and a grasp of religion issues that is fair, balanced and in accordance with journalistic standards. Russ Chandler, a former L.A. Times religion reporter, sponsors the award.

Both undergraduate and graduate students can enter either news or features stories dealing with religion, spirituality or ethics that have been published in print format (or its online adjunct) in a student or general circulation newspaper. Stories published through internships are also eligible. The deadline is May 3, and first prize is $600.

National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association student project application--Deadline June 11

Each year, the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) puts together a Student Project to coincide with our annual Journalism Convention – this year held in San Francisco, CA to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

Students participating in the 2010 Student Project will work with media professionals to report, edit, photograph, design and produce the news of NLGJA’s National Convention and host city while furthering their own interest in ensuring fair and accurate coverage of the LGBT community.

The WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism has opened voting for the 2nd Annual Golden Quill Teaching Awards. The purpose of the awards is to reward outstanding teaching, mentoring, and advising in the School of Journalism. The awards are based solely on student nominations.
