Students and faculty at West Virginia University’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism continue to garner national and international recognition for their work in broadcast journalism and documentary filmmaking.
“WVU News,” the student-produced weekly news program, recently received a Platinum Ava Award, an international award that recognizes outstanding work by creative audio-visual professionals. The Platinum Award is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding submissions in the competition and are recognized for their excellence in quality, creativity and resourcefulness.
Students in West Virginia University’s P.I. School of Journalism launched a project this month to help low-income college students and families in the area become more financially savvy.
WVU’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter is using the campaign, “Financially Literate 4 LIFE,” as its entry for the annual Bateman Competition, a national PRSSA contest. WVU’s entry is sponsored by Ally Financial (formerly GMac). Teams consist of four to five public relations students who create and implement a full public relations campaign for a national client.
West Virginia University journalism students in the Public Relations Student Society of America will hold their second annual fashion show at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Mountainlair Ballroom. Proceeds from “Cupid, Clothes, & Community” will be donated to the Morgantown Boys and Girls Club.
Local retail stores such as Maurices, Altered Ego, Coni & Franc and the Gap are participating in the event. In addition, students from the WVU College of Creative Arts’ Division of Art and Design will be displaying their work. Clothing will be modeled by WVU students.
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is seeking to fill a position in U.S. Programs for a part-time Research Assistant who will work primarily with the Digital Media and Learning initiative, which aims to determine how digital media are changing the way young people learn, play, socialize and participate in civic life. Training and/or experience in education, digital media, sociology, and/or anthropology would be helpful.
