WV Uncovered seeks VISTA member

The West Virginia Uncovered Project seeks an Americorps VISTA Member to coordinate digital media literacy training and the promotion of healthy information systems in West Virginia communities. The position is an exciting opportunity to work with the Uncovered Project as we work to ensure the health of community media and strive to promote engagement with civic life.

The successful candidate will assist the Uncovered coordinator in planning and executing digital media literacy workshops for community media, state educators and community members. He/she will assist in the study of the state’s communities and their information needs and help facilitate public contributions to community information. Americorps VISTA members work to increase educational and economic capacity that aids communities in combating poverty.

Knowledge of basic multimedia production skills, web publishing, and social media are a plus. Travel in West Virginia is an expectation of the job.

VISTAs are not paid employees. VISTAs earn a living allowance of $892.00 a month. They also have offered to them life and medical insurance. VISTAs may choose to receive an “End Of The Year” stipend ($1200) or choose an Education Award ($5400) to go back to school or pay on student loans after completing their first year of volunteer service. VISTAs may serve up to 5 years total.
