'Voices of Appalachia' Writing Contest now taking submissions

The Mountaineer Week Literary Publication Committee is accepting writing submissions through Aug. 31 for a chance to be a part of the first Mountaineer Week Appalachian Literary Publication: Voices of Appalachia Writing Contest.

The contest is open to all WVU students, staff, faculty and alumni and entries should focus on the joys of being a Mountaineer.

Suggested categories/genres are: short stories, fiction/non-fiction, poetry/prose, anecdotes, memories, simple pleasures, history, traditions, folklore/ghost stories, romance, or just simply being a Mountaineer. The winners will be used in an anthology of Appalachian writing that affirms Appalachian culture, life, art, and its people.

Student and faculty/staff first-place winners will be announced during Family Fun Day, Sat. Oct. 27, where prizes will be awarded. The publication will be available for purchase during the upcoming WVU Mountaineer Week Oct. 26 – Nov. 4.

For more information, including submission rules, contact Sonja Wilson at 304-293-2702. Entries must be typewritten and submitted electronically to Pamela DeBarr at pamela.debarr@mail.wvu.edu.
