Pittsburgh Tribune-Review seeks summer interns

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is accepting applications for paid internships during summer 2013 in Pittsburgh and at affiliated papers.

Internships last 13 weeks and pay $350 a week. Interns will be treated as full-time staffers. A car and valid driver’s license are required.

Most internships are based at the newsroom on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, between PNC Park and Heinz Field. A few are with the Tribune-Review in Greensburg and the Valley News Dispatch in Tarentum. The Tribune-Review is accepting applications for internships in news reporting, sports reporting, photography, and copy editing.

The Tribune-Review is the flagship paper for a group of seven dailies and more than 20 weeklies in Western Pennsylvania. It is based in one of the few American cities with competing, independently owned daily newspapers. Its circulation is 210,000.

Applicants for the metro spots should have completed at least their junior years. A previous internship or experience on a college news operation is a plus.

To apply, mail a cover letter, resume and work samples to Mark Gruetze, Administrative Editor, 503 Martindale St., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Application postmark deadline is Dec. 31.

Applicants for writing positions should include six to eight clips that show a variety of work. Archive printouts are accepted as long as they are true to the original.

Applicants for photography positions should include a DVD with 10 individual photos plus a photo story and one or two multimedia projects.

Applicants for copyediting positions should include up to 10 samples of headlines and page layouts. If possible, include before and after samples of stories you edited.
