Shott Chair of Journalism Lois Raymond describes her photography exhibit, “Fractured Spaces: Stories of Resistance & Resilience brings together work focused on communities disrupted and dislocated by political and cultural conflict.” The panel event, “Student Experiences of Fractured Spaces: Stories of Resistance & Resilience,” focuses on the work of our very own Lois Raimondo.

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 9
Place: Mountainlair’s Shenandoah Room
Time: 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

There will be free pizza provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event, co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs and the WVU Libraries, Art in the Libraries series, will discuss student experiences with the exhibit: “Fractured Spaces: Stories of Resistance Resilience,” currently on display in the WVU Downtown Campus Library. This exhibit focuses on three parts – “In the wake of 9/11,” “Tibet in Exile” and “Safe House in Pakistan.” All of these sections showcase photos by Raimondo that show how lives were disrupted and cultures were displaced in war-torn regions and how refugees are seeking ways to continue in their new homes. The discussion panel will include Sara Berzingi, Mohamed Ali and Augustine Kim.

Lois Raimondo is a former staff photographer for The Washington Post and currently an assistant professor and Shott Chair of Journalism at the WVU Reed College of Media. Her work has appeared in many international publications, including The New York Times, National Geographic and Newsweek. Her front-line reporting from the war in Afghanistan was recognized with the Edward Weintal Prize for Diplomatic Reporting.

This program is sponsored as part of the WVU Office of Multicultural Programs’ Cecilia Rollins Brown-Bag Lunch Film Discussion Series. For more information, email: Jason.Burns@mail.wvu.edu or call 304-293-0890.
